This week in Introduction to Ceramics I demonstrated Slab construction to students. Each student will be constructing a Cylinder with texture on the exterior surface and they will also construct a Box with exterior texture to be turned in for grades. The classes will be working with slab for the next two weeks to give time to work to dry and for pieces that break.

Ceramics has Begun for 2012!

Spring Semester 2012 has begun! I am very excited to have a new group of 94 Introduction to Ceramics and Advanced Ceramic students to work with this semester. Intro. to Ceramics are starting off with pinch pots, using stamps, carving tools and texture tools. It is extremely exciting to see the work started and to see the progress through the semester with their technique. As the semester moves along students will be building larger pieces. All the work done in Intro is hand built pottery (pinch pots, coil, slab & pods).

Advanced Ceramics for the Spring semester of 2012 has many projects to get underway. The students are starting off constructing a functional Tea Pot. Internet research and planning occurs before construction begins with each student. Always exciting to see the Tea Pots! students will also construct two cups that go with their Tea Pots. This project is about 5 to 6 class periods to complete.
